National PB&J Day: Celebrating with the AutoFry!

Written by Danielle Fantasia | Apr 2, 2021 1:30:00 PM

Happy National Peanut Butter & Jelly Day! Here at MTI, we love a good food holiday, and we could not be more excited for his one. Without a doubt this American classic is a favorite throughout not only our country, but our history. According to the  Nation Peanut Board, the first PB&J sandwich recipe debuted in the Boston Cooking School Magazine of Culinary Science and Domestic Economics written by Julia Davis Chandler. It has been said that her recipe included a crab apple or currant jelly, very different from the traditional grape jelly or strawberry jam.

In honor of this timeless sandwich, we have put together our own recipe, but with a bit of a twist. We decided to kick it up a notch and deep-fry our PB&J in the AutoFry until it is golden and crispy on the outside and filled with ooey-gooey deliciousness on the inside! Talk about a great addition to any restaurant, bar, or brewery.

Try out the recipe today and you’ll be adding it to your menu tomorrow!

Ingredients

  • 2 Slices of White Bread
  • 2 Tablespoons of Peanut Butter
  • 2 Tablespoons of Grape Jelly

Instructions

  • Spread 2 tablespoons of peanut butter on one side of one slice of white bread.
  • Spread 2 tablespoons of grape jelly on one side of the remaining slice of white bread.
  • Press together the two sides containing the peanut butter and jelly, so both spreads are no longer exposed.
  • Using a large cookie cutter or a knife, remove the crust, creating a circle.
  • With a fork, press down firmly on the open edges of your now circular sandwich, this way none of the filling can escape.
  • Freeze for one hour or longer.
  • When ready to cook, place frozen PB&J into the AutoFry food chute.
  • Set your AutoFry timer for 1 minute.
  • Close your food chute, dumping the PB&J into the enclosed oil pot.
  • Press the start button.
  • When the time sounds, your freshly fried sandwich will dispense from the exit chute and into your pan.
  • Dust with powdered sugar or serve with a scoop of ice cream.

Sounds AMAZING right? Don’t be afraid to get a little creative and test out different combinations. Try chocolate hazelnut spread with raspberry jam, or crunchy peanut butter with marshmallow fluff. The possibilities are practically endless!
