Well folks, 2022 is officially coming to a close. This means it is time to go through our trend predictions for the new year. You never know what the future will hold for the foodservice industry, but we like to throw our projections out into the universe and see what holds true.
First up, Mushrooms.
Now, we know what you are thinking…and no, not those mushrooms. Specialty mushrooms (non-psychedelics 😉) will have their place in the spotlight in 2023. This will include shroom varieties like Lions Mane, Trumpet, and Oyster. But we won’t just be eating mushrooms in 2023, we will also be drinking them! Since 2021 fungi-based coffees and teas have been growing in popularity, and they do not seem to be slowing down anytime soon. This is mostly due to their potential health benefits like immune support and stress reduction.
Next on our list, Comfort Food.
This is the trend that just won’t go away, and to be clear, we are NOT complaining! We absolutely love comfort food, and totally understand why people are still craving things like fried chicken sandwiches and piles of cheesy nachos, year after year. The truth is, sometimes nothing can put a smile on your face quite like the nostalgia and deliciousness of comfort food.
Lastly, we have Solo Dining.
2023 is going to be the year of solo dining. Eating out alone is expected to really explode as we head into the new year. People are stepping outside of their comfort zones and choosing to do something special for themselves. Dining alone allows people to try new places that maybe family members or friends were not interested in. It also makes it easier to get reservations at places that typically book up quickly. But honestly, who wants to split appetizers anyways…keep those boneless wings all for yourself!
So, what trend are you looking forward to the most? Let us know in the comments section.
